                                                            England

Firstly let us tell you a bit about ourselves. We are an English couple now living in Kusadasi Turkey. We moved from the Northeast of England for a new life in the sunshine. We didnt have to wait for retirement age as due to an accident retirement was forced on us!

We have been here since May 2004 and have no desire to return to the UK and its weather. Turkey is a super place to live, low cost of housing and living, friendly people and of course the wonderful climate.

        Sandy Beach

Our villa is in a lovely position, overlooking the Aegean Sea and the Greek Island of Samos. Our neighbours are all Turkish and are so helpful and kind, there is a real sense of community here.

 Sunburn

We split our time between our villa and our boat, which is moored in the Marina at Kusadasi. Its great to be on the boat, anchored off in some secluded bay through the balmy days of summer when we get the cooling meltemi winds from the Aegean.

Kusadasi has a busy harbour visited by many large cruise liners including the QEII and The Grand Princess, as many as 6000 passengers a day arrive by sea. Many take excursions to the nearby historical ruined city of Ephesus and The Virgin Mary's House (said to be the place where she spent her last years). The visitors then return to Kusadasi for shopping and a stroll round the Old Town exploring its narrow streets and bazars. When the whistle blows its time to return to their ships and sail off into the sunset and the next port of call.

Further along the coast and easily reached by dolmus (the local buses)  are the two small towns of Davutlar and Guzelcamlik. Davutlar is a Typical Turkish town, men sit in the Locantas (cafes) drinking cay (tea) reading the papers, playing backgammon and putting the world to rights. The Women?? at home preparing the meals, cleaning and looking after the children and elderly relatives. The town comes alive on a Sunday when the market arrives and the whole town is out and about, shopping, bargaining and gossiping about the weeks events. National holidays and special days are always celebrated by the townsfolk with everybody dressed in national costumes and children's bands marching through the streets, its great to watch.

Guzelcamlik was a small fishing port and still retains its picturesque harbour with multi-coloured boats. The town was for many years a Greek settlement and still enjoys strong ties with the nearby Greek Island of Samos. The Millipark (A National Park) begins just outside the town and is a popular place for both tourists and Turks to visit. On a Sunday in summer the smell of BBQs drifts across the beaches as the locals and their extended families all pile out of their cars to enjoy a picnic
